This VW T2a gearbox is a professionally reconditioned unit for classic Volkswagen buses from model years 1968 to 1971. It is ideal for faithful restorations and for vehicles where reliability, smooth power transmission, and an original driving feel are paramount.

The complete overhaul reduces age-related wear. The goal is smooth running, clean shifting behavior, and durable function, as is typical for the early VW T2a.

Suitable Vehicles & Variants – VW T2a

The gearbox is suitable for all VW T2a models (1968–1971) – regardless of body type or conversion variant.

Suitable for, among others:

  • VW T2a Combi
  • VW T2a Panel Van
  • VW T2a Pickup / Double Cab
  • VW T2a Camper Van
  • VW T2a Westfalia Camper
  • VW T2a Ambulance (e.g., Binz, Miesen)
  • VW T2a Fire Engine
  • VW T2a Official & Special Vehicles
  • VW T2a Transporter & Delivery Van

The gearbox design for these variants is structurally identical.

Suitable Engine Variants – regardless of engine type

The gearbox is suitable for all standard VW T2a engine variants, regardless of engine type, including:

  • 1600 Type 1 (e.g., H-, B-, AD-, AE-engines)
  • standard Type 1 engines with single- or dual-port cylinder heads
  • near-standard or moderately performance-enhanced Type 1 setups

👉 The engine type does not affect the fit or function of the gearbox.

Scope of Delivery & Illustration Note

The scope of delivery includes exclusively the reconditioned VW T2a gearbox.

Not included are, among others:

  • Drive shafts or axle components
  • Shift linkage

  • further add-on parts or periphery

Add-on parts shown in product images are for better illustration and assignment of the gearbox only and are not part of the scope of delivery, unless expressly stated otherwise.

Installation Note

Installation should be carried out by a qualified specialist workshop. Proper adjustment of the shifting and drive is a prerequisite for clean shifting behavior and a long service life of the gearbox.
